Is there an advantage in consuming enteric-coated capsules?

There is absolutely NO advantage in consuming enteric-coated probiotic capsules.

All probiotic manufacturers worldwide must demonstrate that their strains remain alive in an acidic environment (such as in the stomach) at a pH of 3. A pH of 1 to 6 is said to be acidic. The smaller the number, the more acidic is the environment. In other words, 1 is more acidic and 6, is less acidic.

When you eat, the pH in your stomach increases to about 5 or 6. So if the strains of bacteria survive to a pH of 3, then they will survive to a less acid pH of 5 or 6 and will reach their respective areas, the small intestine for the Lactobacilli and the colon for Bifidobacteria.

So why pay more for an enteric-coated capsule?
